Multicultural Must Read: Mississauga MP caught up in intercultural mis-communication

Why does MP Iqra Khalid remain in discussions

An editorial from Toronto's Canadian Punjabi Post.

Translated Summary: "Mississauga Erin Mills MP Iqra Khalid has always remained a topic of discussion in the media. At present, she is under fire for presenting a “certificate of appreciation” to Amin El-Maoued, the public relations chief of Palestine House, which one Jewish advocacy group labels a purveyor of anti-Semitism. Palestine House was also under investigation by the RCMP in 2010 for a potentially massive case of citizenship fraud involving 300 people who claimed to live at the same Mississauga address where Palestine House is located. According to information from the Globe and Mail, citizenship court judges were briefed on the case late last year and were specifically asked to be cautious of cases where multiple applicants appear to be using the same address. Iqra Khalid is also famous for releasing Canadian Heritage funds to the National Council of Canadian Muslims and Islamic Relief, which has ties with the Council on American Islamic Relations, which has connections to Islamist extremism & terror funding. These things make us wonder whether the young South Asian MP likes to remain in controversy through some well-thought-out policy or whether she lacks the maturity to understand the political events happening around her." (17/08/2018).

The delicate state of relations between Palestine and Isreal can be felt within their diasporic communtities here in Canada. By paying close attention to the ethnic media of these communities, decision makers can be better informed and tuned in to the issues that matter to their constituents and voters. Every day MIREMS consultants are listening to, reading and watching this media, making it available and accessible to Canadians.
